The crunch of snow underfoot and the cawing of a lone bird flying overhead are the sounds of a winter landscape en plein air away from the noisy roads. The modesty of the color in the snow scale is broken only by the juicy smears of ochre on the rustling straw and the wooden walls of the hayloft tinted with clumps of red cadmium. But suddenly, from behind the fence, two young graces ride out on white and bay horses.
